Eastbrook Outlasts South Adams

August 18th 2006 - Eastbrook started their season off in the right way defeating South Adams 14-6. The game was not always a pretty one to watch. South Adams and Eastbrook played with a lot of intensity but both teams showed their inexperience with several turnovers and penalties.
Eastbrook took the initial kickoff in good field position. A short drive would result in a punt moving South Adams deep in their own territory. South Adams would respond with a five minute drive covering 81 yards. The drive was capped on a 1-yard TD run by Brent Habegger. The Starfires missed the extra-point making the score 6-0.
The Panthers would respond mid-way through the second quarter. Eastbrook would taking advantage of great field positions after a poor South Adams punt. The highlight of the drive came on a Nathan Felver to Marc Miller pass play covering 25-yards. Miller would finish the drive with a 3-yard scoring run. Phil Wood tacked on the extra point making the score 7-6.
South Adams would start the second half with the ball. After two short running plays Blake Barajas would step in front of his first of three interceptions to give the Panthers excellent field position. The Panthers would march 43-yards for a touchdown. Miller would once again score from 3-yards out.
The rest of the game turned into a defensive battle. Barajas would lead the charge with two more interceptions.
Eastbrook would finish the night with 196 yards on the ground. Led by Marc Miller with 91 yards and 2 touchowns.
Eastbrook is now 1-0 and will travel to Wabash for the first of three road games. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m. |
