Panthers Bash Bruins 33-6
October 8th 2005 -

Eastbrook pulled ahead and stayed ahead the whole game, starting with the opening kick-off.  Derek Herring took the kick-off and faked a handoff to Jason Poe and then ran 90 yards untouched to give the Panthers the lead with only 15 seconds expired off the clock.  Excellent special teams play helped the panthers capture their 7th victory of the season and stay on top of the CIC rankings.  Madison-Grant also won against Elwood.  There is now a tie between Eastbrook and Madison-Grant for the CIC title.

Eastbrook defeated host Blackford 33-6 last Friday at Blackford.  The Bruins fell to 1-7 while the panthers improved to 7-1.

After the opening kickoff, the Panthers fumbled away their opening drive.  The Bruins would take advantage of this and scored.  The Panthers, not to be outdone, scored moments later.  Herring received this kickoff and handed the ball off to Poe who went 85-yards for the score.  The defense came up big this time.  Derek Herring picked off a Blackford pass and then he scored 8 plays later from 1 yard out.  The Bruins would not score the rest the night.   Then with 25-seconds left in the half, Poe scored again. This time on a slippery spinning run that went for 61 yards.

Poe registered the only score of the second half.  Poe made a great defensive break on the ball and intercepted it.  He would then return it 56 yards for the score.

Eastbrook will play next Friday at Elwood for a share of the CIC championship.
