Eastbrook Defeats Elwood
September 23rd 2011 -

Eastbrook went on to claim their 4th victory of the conference season with a 49-27 win over Elwood Friday night.  After the game the team was informed that they would have to forfeit 3 conference games due to an ineligible player.  The Panthers will not have a realistic shot at claiming the conference crown this season.

Eastbrook did not get off to the normal first quarter start they were used to.  After forcing Elwood to kick on their first possession a mishandled punt gave the ball back to Elwood near midfield.

Heath Brooksher would end that Elwood drive near the goaline with a spectacular diving interception.

The Panther offense would take it from there.  Zach Burton would finish off the first drive putting the Panthers up 7-0.

The second quarter would see Eastbrook do most of their damage.  Gavin Pearson would score on a short run set up on a Jacob Singer to AJ Alexander pass.

Singer would connect with his favorite target Brooksher from 44 yards out to take the lead to 21-0.

Elwood would get on the board next.  Sammy Mireles would take one to paydirt from 60 yards to narrow the gap back to 14.

Eastbrook would respond to that with an Austin Simison run to make it 28-7.

Singer would attempt to make it 31-7 but his 25 yard field goal attempt would sail just wide left.

Eastbrook would rattle off two more scores in the third quarter.  Brooksher would do it this time on the ground for his second score.  Simison would also add one on the ground for his second score pushing the lead to 42-7.

Elwood would show their offensive might scoring 3 of the last 4 touchdowns.  Mireles would score twice on runs over 20 yards while Bryce Graves would take a long one in from 81 yards to finish the scoring.

Gavin Pearson would punch the last Panther touchdown in between the Mireles scores to make the final 49-27.

All in all Eastbrook play a fairly solid game.  Missed tackles and the elusiveness of Mireles lead to giving up more yards and points than what was anticipated.

Kyle Martin lead the Panthers again with 11 tackles and 3 for loss.  Mac Zoda played one of his best defensive games of the season registering 9 tackles and 2 for loss.  Nathan Hollaway and Tom Roush lead the defensive line with 8 stops each.

Eastbrook will next play the Grant 4 foes.  First up will be Madison-Grant.  They are coming off a 46-18 win over Frankton.  The Panthers also get to play the next three games at home.  Game time is set for 7:00.
