Eastbrook Defeats Western
|
|
August 26th 2011 - Eastbrook moved to 2-0 on the season with a 14-6 victory over 3A #9 ranked Western. The victory was a big one and a possible showdown later for sectional 19 crown. The game was a hard fought physical game from both sides. Eastbrook looked to take the lead on the opening possession. A 14 play drive would stall inside the five with a fumble. Eastbrook got on the board first about half way through the 2nd quarter. Jacob Singer would take the ball 71 yards and add the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Eastbrook would have a chance to go up another touchdown on a punt return. The return would go all the way inside the 5 yard line before a Western player would knock the ball out from behind. Western would recover the ball in the endzone and retain possession. Austin Simison would put the Panthers up 14-0 in the 3rd quarter on a 10 yard run off left tackle. The final score of the game would come from Western. Quin Fields would find Ronnie Smith down the right sideline from 49 yards out for the only Western score. Eastbrook’s defense would finish off a stellar night in the 14-6 win. Eastbrook would allow only 77 yards on the ground. Tommy Roush did not have a huge statistical game but was an unbelievably disruptive force in the middle of the defense. The front would force Western, a power rushing football team, to throw the ball 24 times. Kyle Martin, in just his second varsity game, would lead the Panthers in tackles with 11 total. Gavin Pearson would also turn in a good night with 8 tackles. Roush had only 5 tackles but 3 were for a loss and 1 sack. Eastbrook will now move into the conference portion of the season. The Panther are looking for a 3-peat. They will first face Frankton. Frankton will come in 1-1 after a victory last week over Lapel. Game time will switch to 7:00 this week.
