| Eastbrook Sets a Record |

October 2nd 2009 - Eastbrook moved to 7-0 with a record setting 78-14 win over Elwood. The win coupled with Madison-Grant's victory of over Frankton sets up a conference championship game in week 8. The two teams enter the game undefeated at 5-0. Eastbrook got off to a quick start putting 28 points up in the first quarter. The first drive took just 5 plays to cover the 74 yards. Max Widmeyer put the first score on the board. Jordan Hatfield would block a punt on Elwood's first possession to give the Panthers good field position on their next drive. Colton Benedict would add on of his three touchdowns. Elwood would get on the board with a long kickoff return covering 94 yards to narrow the gap to 14-7. Jeremy Porter-Jones would make the score 21-7 on the next possession. Hatfield would block another punt on Elwood's next possession. This one would be recovered by Christian Young in the endzone for a 28-7 lead at the end of a quarter. The second quarter would see the Panthers score 4 more times. Benedict would score his final two scores and Tanner Day would push one in on a sneak. Widmeyer would close out the first half scoring returning a punt 39 yards for a 55-7 halftime lead. The Panthers would continue with a strong offense in the second half. Christian Young would add his second touchdown this time carrying the ball from fullback. Max Widmeyer end his stellar night with his third score. Elwood's second score would come in the middle of the third quarter as Derek Wells hit Trevor Ozenbaugh on an 89-yard scoring strike. Eastbrook would add a safety to the score late in the third quarter. An errant snap would cause Well to have to run the ball out the back of the endzone. Austin Loftis would finish the scoring and set the record in the fourth quarter to finish the at 78-14. Lost in all the offense was a pretty strong effort from the defense. Eastbrook held Elwood to -51 yards rushing and just 48 total yards on the night. Hatfield, Jackson Bratcher, and Caleb Hemmick would lead a balanced defense with 4 tackles each. Eastbrook sacked the quarterback 5 times and had 7 tackles for loss. The showdown is now set. Eastbrook’s conference leading offense will face up against Madison-Grant’s conference leading defense. This will also be Eastbrook's homecoming. Game time will be 7:00. |
