| Eastbrook defeats Elwood |
|
October 3rd 2008 - Eastbrook pushed its winning to 4 games with a 23-0 victory over Elwood. The Panthers have used a simple equation during this streak. Play great defense and control the ball. Entering the week Eastbrook had the number one rated defense in 3A. The shutout did nothing but drop the scoring average. The young players have really learned the system. They look at that ranking with great pride and want to keep it each week.
This game was much the same as the past four. Eastbrook's offense struggled in to move the ball early. The special teams and defense helped to change that field position. Jeremy Porter-Jones put Eastbrook on top on a 17-yard run.
Phil Wood connected on a 32-yard field goal on the next possesion to give Eastbrook a 10-0 lead at the half. Eastbrook's defense held Elwood to just 54 first half yards.
Eastbrook came out in the second half to put the game away. Derek Case found Colton Bendict down the sideline for a 37-yard touchdown strike and a 17-0 lead.
Eastbrook put the finishing touches with the next kick. A perfectly placed onside kick would be recovered by Jordan Hatfield. Porter-Jones would finish the scoring from 1-yard out and a final score of 23-0.
The defense held Elwood to just over 100 yards total offense. Caleb Hemmick led the way with 10 tackles and 2 tackles for loss.
Eastbrook will next play county rival Madison-Grant.
