October 9th 2009 - On a wet, cold and muddy night Eastbrook warmed things up a bit winning the CIC title defeating Madison-Grant 28-0. The much anticipated match of conference undefeated teams was put to bed early. Eastbrook jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. Madison-Grant turned the ball over on their first offensive play giving the Panthers great field position. Colton Benedict would scamper 31-yards to put the Panthers up 7-0 with less than two minutes gone. The next series would see the Argylls go three and out. Benedict would ring the bell again two plays later. This time he would take it in from 53-yards out. A missed extra point would make the score 13-0. Jeremy Porter-Jones would give the Panthers a 19-0 lead on an exciting 33-yard run. Jackson Bratcher would carry the two point conversion in to make the score 21-0. The Panthers would have a chance to go up big in the first quarter. Jordan Hatfield would recover a fumble deep in Madison-Grant territory but the Panthers would turn it back over missing a chance to seal the game early. Porter-Jones would finish the scoring in the second quarter on a short 5-yard run. The completed a long 12 play drive for a 28-0 score. Neither team would threaten the rest of the game. Madison-Grant would come the closest before Bryce Marsee would end that drive with an interception. The Panther defense played one of the best games of the season hold the potent Argyll rushing attack out of the endzone. Caleb Hemmick’s 15 tackles lead a group of 7 players that had at least 8 stops. Matt Shonkwiler and Boone Searles also recorded double digit tackles with 10 each. The Panthers will move on to close out their season against county rival Mississinewa. The Indians come in riding a four game winning streak. The Panthers will look to finish off an undefeated season and keep momentum heading into the playoffs.
