Panthers Roll to Victory Over Zebras
August 19th 2011 -

Eastbrook opened up its season with a solid 54-27 win against Rochester.  The Panther were able to put up some impressive numbers offensively in their first outing with many new starters.

Three new records were put in the book.  The Panthers put up a single game rushing record as a team with 596 yards.  Gavin Pearson set the longest run with a 96 yard run in the 3rd quarter.  Jacob Singer set the single game record for rushing with 286 yards.

The game started out very well for the Panthers.  Eastbrook put their first score on the board after an 18 play drive.  Jacob Singer would score the first of his five touchdowns to put Eastbrook up 6-0.

The Panthers would go up 14-0 on their next possession.  This time Singer would hook up with Mac Zoda for a 10 yard touchdown.

The next five minutes would see the wheels fall off for the Panthers.  Rochester would put together a score drive that would end in a 19 yard scoring strike from Jon O’Dell to Collyn Bennett to narrow the gap to 14-6.

The Panthers would take the next possession looking like they would answer the Rochester score when a fumble would derail that possession.

Shortly after O’Dell and Bennett would hook up again to tie the score at 14-14.

Rochester would seize the lead on their next possession with just over a minute to go in the half.  O’Dell would again find Bennett for their third touchdown pass of the 2nd quarter to go up 20-14.

Singer would stop the bleeding for the Panthers just before halftime with a long run to tie the score up at 20 at the half.

The second half would be a different story.  A few defensive adjustments help sure up the pass defense and put some pressure on the quarterback.  The rest would be left up to Singer.

Singer would put up three more touchdown runs in the second half.  Gavin Pearson would also put his record breaking 96 yarder on the  and Zach Burton would finish off the scoring with his first varsity score.

A Rochester kick return would be the only points that they would put up in the second half.

Pearson and Nathan Holloway would lead the defense with 6 tackles each.  Pearson would also add 3 sacks to his total.  Singer would add 2 interceptions to his fantastic debut.

The win brought the Panthers regular season winning streak to 25 games.  The Panthers will next play rival Western.  This will be a stiff challenge to open the home schedule.  Western ended last season on a roll and returns most of their starting line up from a year ago.  The game will also be a preview of a potential sectional matchup.  Game time is a 7:30.
