Panthers Strong Defense Leads Victory
|
|
October 11th 2008 - Eastbrook used another strong defensive effort to defeat Madison-Grant this week 41-0. In the preseason the Panther coaches talked about how good the defense needed to be strong to help offset an inexperienced offense. Little did they know at that beginning of the season that they would set a record for most shutouts in a season. The Panthers set the record at four.
Eastbrook jumped out to a quick lead riding the efforts of its defense. In the first two drives the Panther defense forced a fumble and Bryce Marsee intercepted a pass. It only took the Panthers 4 plays after those turnovers to put the score at 14-0. Colton Benedict would score both of the touchdowns.
The Panthers would go on to score on 5 of their 6 possession in the first half. Derrick Case would hook up with Boone Searles on a 64 yard strike. Jeremy Porter-Jones would rush one in from 37 yards out. Craig Martin would finish the first half scoring on a 4 yard run to make the score 34-0 at the half.
The Panthers would not have a great second half performance on the offensive side of the ball. Kurtis Brooksher would add a touchdown shortly into the fourth quarter for the final score of 41-0.
The Panther defense would have to dig down deep once to maintain thier shutout. Porter-Jones would make a great hustle play running down Andrew Stroup from behind on a long run. That would give the Argylls possession inside the 15 yard line. Eastbrook's defense would rise up and shut off the drive stopping Stroup just short of the marker on 4th down to preserve the shutout and the record.
The Panthers were lead defensively by Jacob Holloway, Caleb Hemmick, and Zach Hodge who each registered double digits in tackles. The Panthers record stands at 5-2. |
