Western Edges Eastbrook
August 29th 2008 -
The early season match-up of two ranked teams lived up to its billing.  Two former MIC rivals hooked up for a battle to the buzzer Friday night.  When the smoke cleared Western had come out on top with a 10-7  victory.

The first quarter saw a defensive struggle between the two teams.  Eastbrook would finally gain some decent field postition in the second quarter.  It would take Eastbrook 10 plays to cover the 46 yards before Craig Martin would punch it in from the 1 yardline for 7-0 lead.

Eastbrook's defense put in a stellar first half only allowing Western to cross midfield once.  That ended in a missed field goal attempt just before the half.

The second half would be the turn.  Western put a little more of its size and experience to work against the young Eastbrook squad.

Western's first possession looked like it might tie the game before Eastbrook's defense would tighten and force a field goal.  Jake Lazar would connect on this one and cut the lead to 7-3.

Western would threaten again late in the third quarter.  Max Widmeyer would stop this drive making an acreobatic interception in the endzone to help preserve the lead.

Western would finally take the lead in the fourth quarter on a Mike Jakubowicz 15 yard touchdown run.

Eastbrook would show the same fight of a week ago.  Derreck Case would hit Colten Benedict for 36 yards to move Eastbrook within striking distance.

Eastbrook would come up short though on a 4th and 2 inside Western's 15 yard line.  Dean Sheppard would shoot through a gap and stop Eastbrook's comeback.

Eastbrook would have one more shot forcing Western to punt from deep in its own territory but a roughing the kicker call would end the chances and Eastbrook would fall 10-7.

Eastbrook has now last three in a row to Western by a total of 7 points.

Eastbrook will be on the road again next week taking on county and conference rival Oak Hill.  Game time is 7:00.
