November 13th 2004 - Upland--The game between two unbeatens lived up to all the hype. The two unbeaten teams battled hard all night but in the end the Panthers were able to overcome the Patriots and advance to semi-state. The game got off to an ugly start from the Panther perspective. Heritage completely dominated the first quarter scoring twice in two possessions making it 12-0 early. On the Panthers third possession they finally got something going. Eastbrook would drive deep into Patriot territory before a couple of mistakes would force a fourth and long. Zach Tuterow would roll right and find Jason Poe who made a diving catch in the endzone give the Panthers some life. Heritage would take that away quickly. On the Patriots third possession they would march down field and score again making the score 19-7. That is when the game would change. On the ensuing kickoff Poe would take the ball 93 yards for a score and bring the Panthers within 5 points at the half 19-14. The second half would belong to the Panther defense and Poe. The defense began to stop the Patriots high powered running attack forcing them to the air. In the mean time Poe went to work on the ground. Poe would take the hand-off on a lead option play and go 73-yards for the go ahead touchdown at 20-19. The defense would start to force turnovers as well. They would force 4 interceptions in the second half giving the Panther offense good field position. Poe would seal the game with a 36 yard run off tackle to make it 27-19.
