September 1st 2006 - Eastbrook got many things that it wanted Friday night:. Its first conference win was the first. Beating county rival Mississnewa was the second and returning the conference Milk Can back to Eastbrook was the third.
In a game that was dominated by the defenses the Panthers was just a little better down the stretch to pull out the win.
Eastbrook would recieve the opening kickoff and march down the field. Marc Miller would take the ball in from 10-yards out for the first touchdown of the game. Phil Wood added the extra-point giving the Panthers the early 7-0 lead.
Eastbrook's defense would force the Indians to punt on thier first possession. On the move again the Panthers would fumble the ball giving the Indians the ball in excellent field possession. Mississnewa would capitalize and tie the ball game back up at 7-7.
The second half would go much the same. Eastbrook would force Mississnewa to punt on its first possession. Five plays later Nathan Felver would fake a handoff and take the ball up the middle 15-yards for the go ahead touchdown.
The defense would take over from that point shutting down the Indian offense. The Indians would make one final charge in the game taking the ball to the Eastbrook 8-yardline. The Panther defense would stand tall and turn the Indians away on four straight plays.
Derek Case would seal the ballgame with and interception late and Eastbrook would run out the clock.
The Panther defense was the big story in the game. Clay Jones led the attack with 3 of Eastbrook's 4 sacks. Many of them came in big situations. Craig Martin also added his first interception of the season.
Eastbrook moves to 3-0. Next weeks game is a big one too. Oak Hill is always a big game on the schedule but it is even more important this year with Oak Hill in the conference. |
